About Us
Extra
Care has a long tradition of providing high quality care in people’s homes
dating back to its beginnings in 1935. Traditionally the main focus of
the work of Extra Care has been in Northern Ireland however following
significant expansion of services in the Republic of Ireland over the
last decade, Extra Care is now an all Ireland organisation.
Extra Care is a voluntary not for profit organisation and recognised as
a charity by the Inland Revenue. Our mission is to provide innovative,
high quality, flexible services so that older people and dependent adults
have the choice to remain living at home with dignity.
We
care for some of the most vulnerable and excluded people in our society
and we believe that as a voluntary organisation our mission is also to
be a champion for them, to make sure their voices are heard, to help give
people that are being cared for at home a greater profile when decisions
over resources are being made. Extra Care employs nearly 500 people across
Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland who are supported through local
offices based in Belfast, Newry, Ballymena, Newtownabbey, Downpatrick,
Enniskillen and Drogheda.
Through our staff we provide more than 10,000 hours of care services -
every week, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - supporting more than 1,500
people to live independent lives in their own homes.
In Extra Care, we focus our efforts on local recruitment, employ all our
own staff directly, and provide training and regular supervision through
our local offices. We look after our staff and they know their contribution
is valued. As a result we have a very low turnover of staff, once people
join Extra Care they tend to stay.
