The Deputy Mayor of Newtownabbey Alderman John
Scott highlighted the important role of the domiciliary care sector
in helping people live independent lives at Extra Care’s Long
Service Awards Ceremony at Newtownabbey Civic Centre on the 10th
October 2008.
Alderman Scott was speaking after presenting awards, to staff from
the Extra Care Belfast, Newtownabbey and Head Offices, to mark 10
and 15 years of dedicated service with Extra Care.
In congratulating the Extra Care staff Alderman Scott stressed
the importance of providing high quality care and supporting independent
living for people in the Borough.
Prior to presenting engraved Belfast Crystal awards to each of
the staff members Alderman Scott said:
“Everyone should have some choice about how their care needs
will be met. People in the Newtownabbey Borough and indeed people
throughout NI want to live independently and safely in their own
homes for as long as it is safe to do so. It’s thanks to the
dedication and commitment of people like Extra Care’s Careworkers
that we are able to do this’’.
Following the presentation of the awards Alderman Scott invited
the Extra Care Chair Frank Young and staff to visit the Private
Members Room and the Council Chambers.
